Equipment codes are designed for repeatable tagging. They are best when you need many QR codes that follow a clear labeling standard across physical assets such as units, devices, or maintainable systems.
Choose the creation method that matches the asset list
Taliho supports several practical ways to create equipment codes:
- Prefix + quantity when labels follow a simple count, such as AHU-1 through AHU-20.
- CSV upload when you already have a detailed equipment register.
- Manual entry when you need a small to medium list copied from another source.
Use prefix + quantity for clean sequences
This is the fastest option when you have a predictable naming rule. It works well for identical classes of equipment that only need a counted suffix.
Examples:
HP-1throughHP-50VAV-1throughVAV-30FCU-1throughFCU-18
Use CSV for more complex equipment sets
If the equipment list already exists in a spreadsheet, CSV upload is usually the cleanest path. It keeps naming consistent and reduces the risk of manual entry mistakes.
Use manual entry for smaller lists
Manual entry works well when the list is short and direct. It is often faster than preparing a file for upload, but it still benefits from a clear naming rule.
Keep labels readable in the real world
Equipment tags are usually scanned in mechanical rooms, above ceilings, at panels, or on equipment that may already have crowded labeling.
- Keep names concise enough to read quickly.
- Use a consistent prefix system across the project.
- Match the naming pattern used by the team maintaining the asset.
- Review the list before printing to catch conflicts or awkward labels.
Think ahead to growth
Equipment sets almost always change. New units get added, replaced, or split into new scopes. Build the first set so it can grow without forcing a full rebuild later.
